English Movies on TV

The other day i was watching Constantine on HBO. Having watched it already in the theatre as well on my PC, i was shocked to see the number of scenes that were cut from the movie. Like for instance the scene with the bug demon at the petrol pump was cut off, Isabel's suicide was cut and many more. The only explanation that comes to my mind is that the scenes were cut off so that the movie rating becomes "UA" and can be telecasted on prime time television. But wheres the fun if important scenes that hold the plot to the movie are cut off.

Allow me to give you another example. "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" premiered this saturday on HBO. Considering its a horror movie (and a scary one) the rating should be "A" however our chaps at HBO decide to make it a "UA" movie and cut off all the scary scenes, so much as to cut off the devil scene in the barn (6 demons). Now how do you expect us to enjoy a scary movie if all the scary scenes are cut off. Its as good as not watching the movie.

This situation is not with HBO alone. I was watching XXX on Star Movies. Its pathetic to watch a little violence scenes cut off from that movie as well. Like in the beginning when XXX (Vin Diesel) smashes the face of the cop on the coffee jar & also the one where he head butts the nose of another cop.

These are just a few movies to name. There are many telecasted here in India which are being censored off.

Let me tell you the reason why this is happening. A few months back we had Star Movies and HBO not allowed to be aired just because they showed adult content. Now as far as i know Star Movies & HBO were very much clean channels with an "A" rating for extreme violence & horror movies. And then there were other channels like Zee Studio which were displaying actual "A" rated movies. (I hope u get my point) Now because of these channels, Star Movies & HBO had to face the axe. Now this situation was totally ridiculous. I guess that is why these channels are a step further while censoring off scenes.

Thats how the situation is here in India, simply pathetic.

India Wins Finally !!!

Yeah India wins again. So we are all supposed to be happy & forget the World Cup debacle. I don't think so. India were supposed to white wash this series against minnows Bangladesh and still they ended up with a draw in the first test. Theres nothing to be proud of winning against a team like Bangladesh.

The real test comes against some formidable opposition like Australia, South Africa, New Zealand or for that matter even Sri Lanka or West Indies. I bet India will have a tough time getting the same result in those situations. We'll be moving to England now. A country with similar problems like those of India. Its will be a great match with 2 not so good sides fighting it out to prove whose superior.

BCCI wants us to believe that everything is back to normal. With a young side sent to Bangladesh to groom them for the future, it was the senior players that shone the most. i guess its back to the past.

Whether everything is back to normal or not, only time will tell. We just want India to win. We watch it for fun.

AC MILAN - Revenge Is Sweet

AC MILAN were crowned champions of Europe after their 2-1 win over Liverpool at Athens on the 23rd of May in the Champions League Final.

Captain Paulo Maldini won his 5th European title & he looks as if he could win a few more. Inzaghi was the man of the match for the 2 goals he scored that managed to seal it for Milan. Liverpool managed to get a goal from Dirk Kuyt in the dying minutes of the game, but it was far too late.

It was an awesome match, with Liverpool being the more dominating side till the first goal by Milan. Obviously Liverpool had more number of chances at Milan's goal, but they never looked like scoring. Milan was not their usual best with Kaka not getting more of the ball, something i bet Liverpool had planned on implementing.

The match was no where near to the drama of the 2005 final where Liverpool had managed to overcome a 3-0 half time deficit and win it all in penalties.

Everyone was expecting revenge for Milan, and that is what happened. Milan played with asingle goal - score goals and beat Liverpool, do not give them a chance to fight back.

Italy has joined Spain as the most successful country in the history of the European Champion Clubs' Cup after this match to move Serie A on to eleven victories in total. Spain reached that mark last year in Paris when FC Barcelona came from behind to beat Arsenal FC 2-1 and add their second crown to the nine won by their great rivals Real Madrid CF, a collection including successes in the first five editions of club football's blue-riband event. Madrid stand alone as the most-titled team in the competition, although the Rossoneri are within two triumphs of that tally after Filippo Inzaghi's first-half strike saw off Liverpool in the Greek capital. FC Internazionale Milano and Juventus are the other Italian sides to have reigned in Europe, each on two occasions.

Microsoft's Ballmer To India: Cut Piracy, Create Jobs

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer says software piracy in India is so bad that it's holding back the country's economy. But if India can reduce piracy by just 10% it would create 50,000 new jobs, says Ballmer. Question: Where will those jobs come from?

In an interview in the Times Of India, Ballmer says piracy is having "a huge negative impact" on economic growth in India. He also cites an unnamed study indicating that 70% of all software used in the country is pirated. Reducing that number by 10% would lead to the creation of 50,000 new jobs in India, Ballmer says in the interview.

Ballmer isn't specific about what, or who, would create those jobs -- but here's a couple of thoughts. Compared with competitor IBM, Microsoft's presence in India is puny. About 5,000, compared with IBM's 50,000. In other words, Microsoft has a lot of room for growth in India. And it needs growth in India to keep up with its rivals.

So Ballmer may be suggesting that Microsoft's head count in India could rise quickly and dramatically if the country takes a more aggressive stance on intellectual property protection. A larger presence in India would allow Microsoft to better tap in to the country's pool of highly skilled, but lowly paid [by American standards] programmers.

It also could help Microsoft defeat calls by some left leaning legislators in India -- notably in the state of Kerala -- for the mandated use of Linux by Indian governmental agencies and schools.

The concern, of course, is that a larger Microsoft presence in India would come at the expense of programming jobs in the U.S. Microsoft employees in Redmond may be hoping that India doesn't take its piracy problem too seriously -- it may be the best job protection they have.

Bomb blast in Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad.

Bomb blasts on Friday,18th May occured in Mecca Masjid just before the namaz started today afternoon. I do not want to quote the casualties because different news channel quote different numbers.....n also people who die just remain only a figure...a number....to be flashed across various media...

Though it has been declared as an attack by anti-social elements...there is no doubt about a
terrorist involvement...

Religion combined with technology is a deadly combination...Religion makes people blind....makes them fail to see reason...And a destructive technology in the hands of a blind person is a disaster and an expensive one!
We lose so many lives to bomb blasts, so much destruction of infrastructure....Terrorism kills freedom,security...& instills fear. I would like to go to the mall without being frisked for once....
For once

I would like to stop being suspicious of any unclaimed article or a weird man i see in the local trains or the platform....for once i wanna stop fearing!

My soul reaches out to the innocent people who perish in these terror attacks.... because they are my countrymen,my brothers n sisters....
Every time I switch on the news channel, I just have this dread in my mind....Please not another one!

But bomb blasts have become very common in different parts of India in the past few years. I wish this madness would stop! What are the terrorist trying to prove? They are blasting their own holy worshipping places...The terrorists are killing fellowbeings from their own community....How sick can they get?

It pains me to see my country like this...It is tranforming slowly into one of those middle eastern countries where its perfectly ok for a 14 yr old boy to behead a living man!

The Children of Hurin!

I finished reading Children of Hurin recently. Its a book which was left incomplete by the legendary author of the Lord of The Rings fame - JRR Tolkien. It was completed by his son Christopher Tolkien.

Children of Hurin is based in the Elder Days even before Elrond. In this story Hurin refuses to submit to the then Dark Lord- Morgoroth. The repercussions were to be suffered by his kin. Morgoroth had cursed his kin....Hence the name Children of Hurin- their journey & their sufferings.

Before reading the book, I was skeptical. I thought the JRR Tolkien essence would be lost in so many years. But Christopher Tolkien has done a good job. It definetly has that ancient feel to it.

But I wasnt thoroughly impressed by the book. The storyline was not thrilling or suspenseful. It just existed as it was...clear as crystal...There were many twists in the story but even they failed to capture my interest. I wouldnt recommend it even for a one time read....

Steve Ballmer going berserk!

This is a video of Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer at an employee convention. The video features Ballmer dancing and screaming wildly to " Get on your feet".

Steve Ballmer is a billionaire 12 times over, and yet he isn't afraid to get up on stage and make a complete fool of himself. I respect him for this unbridled enthusiasm. He looks like a football player rejoicing after a win. I certainly can't think about any other person of such stature screaming on top of his lungs, about how much he loves his company. Indeed Ballmer is unique.

Watch these Spider Man 3 videos in bhojpuri starring Ravi Kisen as the voice of Spider Man / Peter Parker. Its really hilarious......hahahhaha

Indian Idol 3 starts off !!

Well India Idol had started off from 4th May, & i dont think it did with a bang. Well there are quite some changes this year like the judging panel & it is aiming to reach out to the rural areas too(which is a good thing).

I dont dig Indian Idol as such. But i like the initial stages of this program where people come n audition from various cities. Its fun to watch people making fool of themselves in front of the T.V. Some people come to the auditions only to be in front of the camera. May be they expect even they will be cast in some "k" serial by Ekta Kapoor like she did two of the Indian Idol 1 contestants in Kaisa yeh Pyaar hain.

Before i used to pity the contestants because of Anu Malik's attitude towards them, but now after watching the initial episodes i serioulsy pity the judges....tolerating 1000s of useless contestants for that one idol is too much!!! I jus wish the new judges good luck for this enduring pain anguis they have go through!!!

Hansika Motwani "blossoms" in 4 years

Remember this little girl? Well she's a child artist. You must have seen her in many TV serials & Movies. The superhit movie which she was seen in as a child was none other than Koi Mil Gaya. This Film was released in 2003...

Still a little girl isnt she?

Now check this out.....

This is still the same girl...but only fuller...
Now she has bagged a lead role in Aap ka suroor opposite Himesh Reshammiya. I mean from a little girl in 2003 to "lead heroine" in 2007 , how did she transform so quickly? Did she take a growth potion or something? I was really shocked to see her on the trailers with "himmes bhai" & really couldnt believe my eyes. How can someone grow so fast & in the right places? If you luk at yourself wen u were say 12, n then u wer 16 wud there be such a tremendous difference? I think not!

Dravid has a bleeding nose!

Rahul Dravid gets a bleeding nose just before theBangladesh tour. The BCCI did not comment on his state, whether he'll be fit to play for the tour or not. I for one am keeping my fingers crossed for him missing the tour. Well i'm not a " Dravid-Hater" as it might seem, its only that I love Ganguly too much!!! Sachin's out because of his ankle injury & if Dravid's out too then this will be an opportunity for Ganguly to be captain again & we'll get to see his agression once again.

Well but whatever happens , who goes for the tour n who doesnt i personally don expect much from our Indian side . I think our team is really scattered and i think we'll need "fevicol" to keep them together! Ok bad joke...but with the state our team is in, we need some desperate measures and the "politically" driven BCCI isnt willing to do them!!! Lets hope for the best!

Windows Vista!!!

Microsoft launched its latest line of operating systems - "The Windows Vista" in November 2006. There is something in it for everyone....literally speaking. The editions of this OS cater to the need of all...be it a home-maker or a business professional. The different editions of Windows Vista are:

Windows Vista Ultimate - includes all the new features.Windows Vista Home Basic - basic features with a new twist for home use.Windows Vista Home Premium - esp for desktop n mobile PC's.Windows Vista Business - for small businesses.Windows Vista Enterprise - for large scale global organizations. All these editions promise to be bigger & better with loads of new features. Microsoft's mantra for marketing this OS is that it is easier, safer & a lot more entertaining.

All the features are of this OS overwhelming...but the most important feature of it is the "Windows Aero"
Windows Aero is the best-designed, highest-performing Microsoft user interface ever.
Windows Aero gives your PC a whole new look and feel with translucent clarity. We can actually personalize the windows using this translucent effect.
Windows Aero supports high-resolution monitors, so you can get a laptop or flat-screen monitor that's smaller in size but visually richer, displaying high-resolution, easy-to-read images.
In Windows Aero, live task bar thumbnail images display the actual contents of both windows that are currently open and those that are minimized in the task bar. When you rest your mouse pointer on a tile on the task bar, you'll see the "live" contents of that window without having to bring it to the foreground.

Windows Flip is an update to the feature known as ALT+TAB in previous versions of Windows. Windows Flip shows you live thumbnails of your open windows instead of generic icons, making it easier to quickly identify the windows you're looking for.

Windows Flip 3D gives you a new way to find the window you want. When you press Start+TAB, Windows Flip 3D dynamically displays all the open windows on your desktop in a 3D, stacked view. In this view, you can rotate through your open windows to find the one you're looking for. Windows Flip 3D can even show live processes such as playing video. You can also use the arrow keys or the scroll wheel on your mouse to smoothly flip through the open windows and select the window you need.

When you use Windows Aero, open windows glide across your screen as you move or re size them. You'll see no redraw artifacts, latency, or "tearing" effects that sometimes appear on existing interfaces. In Windows Aero, you'll also experience fewer graphics driver–related system failures and stop errors.

Well Windows Vista is the new "in" thing to watch out for us youngsters...
To chk out more features just log on to

Coca Cola to launch fruit juice!

In recent years, Coca-Cola and its archrival PepsiCo have been expanding their non-cola and health based portfolio in various countries because consumers are shifting towards healthier beverages. The sales of cola products had declined in past few years, due to the pesticide controversy.

Coca-Cola is all set to roll out its fruit juice brand Minute Maid in Indian beverage market. With this launch, the company hopes to cash in on changing preferences of consumers, who are increasingly becoming health conscious and may be re-furbish it’s tumbling image from a seller of junk to a seller of health. Initially it will only offer the orange flavour and based on response it will introduce apple and mixed berry flavours. The juice will be available in 400ml and 1litre pet bottles.

How well the Coca-Cola Company will do remains to be seen. Coke is entering the fruit juice a bit late in the day. Brands like Tropiciana from PepsiCo and Real from Dabur have already made inroads into the Indian fruit juice market. On the other hand, maybe Coke is the wise one. Real and Tropiciana have had to literally carve a decent place for themselves in a tiny market…but now the market has taken on a life of it’s own.

So the war of big companies will be fought even in the fruit juice market. As a consumer I am happy, as I’ll get to choose from the best brands. And I hope coca-cola’s Maid won’t disappoint the consumers.

Champions League Final

So i have to take my words back...All hopes of having a Manchester United & Chelsea Final were literally thrashed by Liverpool & AC Milan.

Chelsea had a 1-0 advantage over Liverpool going in the 2nd Leg. but Liverpool played like tigers in their home (literally!!!) Liverpool managed to level up the aggregate to 1-1 with a brilliant Agger goal from a well setup Gerrard freekick.

Liverpool never looked like conceding a goal even with a whole lot of pressure put upon them by Chelsea's counter-attack. The match saw no goals in the 2nd half, and even the extra time yielded no result. So it was upto the breathtaking penalties to see a team through to the finals.
Pepe Reina was the Hero for Liverpool has he saved 2 strikes out of 4 & made sure Liverpool went through to the finals.

In the other Semi Final, Manchester United had a 3-2 edge over AC Milan before going on to San Siro for the 2nd Leg. Kaka's 2 crucial away goals had definitely a part to play here.
It was no surprise that Kaka levelled up the aggregate to 3-3 & gave AC Milan a chance to go through on away goals.
Not long after that Seedorf managed to get a well struck goal for Milan in the 1st Half.

Manchester United lacked their usual "awesome" gameplay. Gattuso managed to keep Ronaldo quiet the entire game. Rooney was no where to be seen. It wasnt the usual Manchester United we've seen throughout the season.

Milan managed to get another goal via Alberto Gilardino to seal their position in the final.
So it all comes down to Athens - 23rd May - AC Milan v/s Liverpool.
Milan will be hopping to avenge their defeat, the last time they met Liverpool in the finals in Istanbul (2005). Liverpool had managed to overcome a 3-0 halftime deficit to take the finals to penalties.

Its an awesome finals to watch with 2 different playing sides battling it out for Europe's Top Spot. I know i'll be there to watch it through.

Microsoft CEO Ballmer laughs at Apple iPhone

Thats some criticism!!!

Apple iPhone!

On the 9th Of January 2007, at the Macworld Conference & Expo, the Apple CEO, Steve Jobs introduced for the very first time, the much awaited & much hyped "Apple iPhone". At the launch Steve Jobs said, "iPhone is a revolutionary and magical product that is literally five years ahead of any other mobile phone. We are all born with the ultimate pointing device - our fingers - and iPhone uses them to create the most revolutionary user interface since the mouse."

The iPhone combines three products — a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a breakthrough Internet communications device with desktop-class email, web browsing, maps, and searching — into one small and lightweight handheld device.

I'll just give you a small glance on few of the many innovations Apple has made on this awesome product. The features can be viewed in detail at the iPhone website given below.

http://www.apple.com/iphone/

The iPhone is a revolutionary new mobile phone that allows users to make calls by simply pointing at a name or number. It syncs all of the contacts from any PC, Mac, or Internet service such as Yahoo!, and one can easily construct a favorites list for the most frequently made calls, and easily merge calls together to create conference calls.

It employs advanced built-in sensors - an accelerometer, a proximity sensor, and an ambient light sensor - that automatically enhance the user experience and extend battery life. Its built-in accelerometer detects when the user has rotated the device from portrait to landscape, then automatically changes the contents of the display accordingly, with users immediately seeing the entire width of a Web page, or a photo in its proper landscape aspect ratio.

The fact is, the iPhone features very little in terms of new technology. What makes Apple’s iPhone remarkable, rather, is the way in which already-existing inventions are combined to create a unique, user-friendly experience.

Obviously there has to be some criticism on any new groundbreaking product.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer laughs about Apple’s iPhone, “the most expensive phone in the world,” because, he says, “it doesn’t appeal to business customers because it doesn’t have a keyboard, which makes it not a very good email machine.”

About the release dates, iPhone will be available in the US in June 2007, Europe in late 2007, and Asia in 2008, in a 4GB model for $499 (Rs 22,210 approx) and an 8GB model for $599 (Rs 26,661 approx), and will work with either a PC or Mac. Compared to the latest Nseries by Nokia, a wide range of camera & walkman phones by Sony, the iPhone promises to bring something new & exciting in the hands of everyday phone users.
